2011 Teachers Workshop: The Civil War in Mississippi–Frontlines

The U.S. Civil War, which lasted from April 1861 to May 1865, produced more American casualties than WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam combined and remains one of the nation’s defining events. Nearly two hundred engagements took place in Mississippi as Union and Confederate armies fought to capture, destroy, or control its vital means of transportation: rivers, rails, and roads. Come learn more about this formative time in Mississippi's history and how to use the information in your classrooms.

The workshop will be held Friday, November 4 from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. at the Old Capitol Museum. Registration forms are available online, and all attendees must pre-register by October 28, 2011. The cost is $40. Participants may claim a CEU credit of .5 issued through Mississippi College: applications may be picked up at the conclusion of the workshop. For more information call 601-576-6800.
